Research & Ratings

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is unranked in Luxury

Subcompact SUVs due to missing safety data. Currently,

the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque’s

overall score is not available, though its Critics’ Rating,

Performance score,

and Interior score are based on our evaluation of 13 pieces

of research and data.

Is the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque a Good SUV?

The Range Rover Evoque is an OK luxury subcompact SUV.

Befitting its badge, it’s very capable venturing

off the beaten path.

On-road manners are decent, though the Evoque

lacks sporty handling

or any alternate engine choices apart from a merely serviceable

base powertrain.

The Evoque makes the grade inside, with high-end materials

and an elegant design.

Cargo and passenger volumes are about average for the segment,

and while there’s

a long list of standard and optional features,

a somewhat complicated infotainment

system might take some getting used to.

Should I Buy the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque?

The Evoque merits consideration if you want an SUV with this

small of a footprint and excellent off-road ability. However, you’re likely

better off going with any number of more well-rounded rivals, like the BMW X1 or Audi Q3.

The Evoque also has one of the highest starting prices in the class,

and that mid-five-figure total can quickly balloon as you add options.

There are several other larger Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles to be had

for what you might pay for an upgraded Evoque.

2020 vs. 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque: What’s the Difference?

Following a full redesign for the 2020 model year,

the Range Rover Evoque sees more notable changes for 2021.

The previously optional 296-horsepower engine is no longer available,

leaving all models with a 246-horsepower setup.

Satellite radio and a surround-view parking camera system are

now standard, and a Wi-Fi hot spot and wireless device charging

are newly optional. Additionally, the infotainment system now runs the

Pivi Pro software, which is easier to use and performs better than the

outgoing Touch Pro Duo interface.

Here are the key changes for the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque over the last few years:

2017: convertible body style became available
2018: 286-horsepower engine made available;

two-door coupe model discontinued
2019: minor updates to infotainment graphics and operation
2020: fully redesigned with new 246- and 296-horsepower engine choices,

longer list of standard infotainment and active safety features, and

extended rear-seat space; convertible model discontinued
2021: optional 296-horsepower engine discontinued; infotainment

software upgraded; more standard and available features.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Versus the Competition

The Audi Q3 challenges for a top ranking in the class on the strength of solid marks for safety and predicted reliability, as well as for having a refined cabin and user-friendly infotainment. Though it doesn’t have the off-road capability of the Evoque, the Q3’s standard Quattro all-wheel-drive system delivers the grip and confidence you need for most driving scenarios. These rival crossovers have comparable cargo space, similar powertrain performance, and a so-so-sized second row. The Audi’s much lower base price helps give it the overall edge.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque vs. BMW X1
The BMW X1 has among the most cargo space in the luxury subcompact

SUV class, and it sports a roomier second row than the Evoque. Other X1

highlights include agile handling, a peppy engine, and good fuel economy.

About the only driving metric that the Evoque tops the X1 in is off-road capability.

Unless you prioritize that, you should buy the BMW.

The X1 also retails for several thousand dollars less than the Evoque.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque vs. Audi Q3

The Audi Q3 challenges for a top ranking in the class on the strength of s

olid marks for safety and predicted reliability, as well as for having a

refined cabin and user-friendly infotainment.

Range Rover Evoque Cargo Space

The smallest Range Rover has about average cargo space for a

luxury subcompact SUV. You get 21.6 cubic feet of space with

the back seats upright, which is enough room for several suitcases.

Fold down the second row, and there’s a maximum of 50.5 cubic feet.

How Many People Does the Range Rover Evoque Seat?

The Evoque seats five people. Up front, the cabin feels open and airy,

more so if you opt for one of the two optional panoramic roofs.

The driver’s and passenger seat are comfortable, with plenty of

power adjustments, and you can upgrade to indulgences that include

ventilated and massaging front seats. Likewise, the second row affords a

good amount of headroom, but it falls behind most of the rest of the class

with just 34 inches of rear legroom. The Evoque should have sufficient

back-seat space for a pair of adults for a short time, but taller people will

be more uncomfortable on longer trips. 2020 Land Rover Evoque
